The Customization Process for Promotional Products

Once you pick out the perfect promotional product to represent your brand, you’ll choose the quantity you need, as well as the color or colors for your logo. When you add items to your cart and complete the checkout process, that’s when the magic begins to happen.

We want you to buy with confidence! So if you’d like to see how an example logo looks on that particular item before you buy, we’re happy to send samples so you can view the quality of both the item and the printing.

When Promotion Pros receives your order, we’ll contact you via email to send us the artwork you’d like to use on your branded items. And if you don’t have print-ready art, it’s no problem. Having print-ready artwork makes the process quicker, but we will take whatever art you have and work our magic to make sure it it’s ready for print and looks great.

We never charge for artwork, and accept standard image files (.jpg, .tif, .gif, .png, .pcx, .bmp), Adobe files (.pdf, .eps, .ai, .psd), Microsoft image files (.doc, .ppt, .pub), and Corel Draw files (.cdr). Should you have a different type of file, send it to us anyway. We can probably make it work, and if not, we’ll contact you immediately to let you know we need a different file type.

If you have special instructions, just reach out and let us know. We’re happy to answer questions, discuss your art or any other concerns you may have. Our goal is to create the perfect promotional product for you.

We then replicate your artwork or logo and send a proof back so you can inspect it and approve it.

If – during this process – you need to change your order, please contact us and we'll do our best to assist you. If the change request is made prior to production and before the items are imprinted with a logo, we may be able to make the requested change.

Production on your order starts once we receive your approval of the artwork proof. Keep in mind that you can cancel your order any time prior to production. However, once we have started production and items have been imprinted with your logo, we are no longer able to accept cancellations.

When your order is completed, it is shipped and we’ll email you with shipment and tracking information. Our normal shipments are made via FedEx Ground, and in most cases we can use your currier account (please let us know before your artwork is approved for production). Split shipments are also available at an additional cost. We also offer priority overnight or FedEx 2-day, in most cases. We are happy to discuss delivery methods with you if you have certain time constraints or requirements.

We’re super excited to now also offer a 24-hour rush option too for those who are in a rush and need their promo products immediately. Certain items at Promotion Pros, like our Sparrow Retractable Ballpoint Pen, now have the option to be printed and shipped from our factory within one business day.

When you place your order by 11 am central time and choose the 24-hour rush option, the process is expedited and your products will be on their way to you within one business day.

However, keep in mind that if you choose the 24-hour rush option, you automatically waive the proof approval process in order for us to complete the project on time.

It is also recommended that all 24-hour rush orders have camera-ready artwork, and we suggest the art be simple rather than a more complicated design. If you do not have camera-ready artwork, your order may not qualify for the 24-hour rush, so you should contact us for assistance if you have questions.

Finally, remember that the 24-hour rush order process applies to production time only; it does not factor in shipping time. Only expedited shipping is guaranteed and if you choose ground shipping, the delivery time frame is only an estimate.

Printing Processes: What does it mean for your logo?

The colors offered by Promotion Pros for printing and embroidery on products run the spectrum. From standard blues and greens to rhodamine red and silver, you’re sure to find great matches for your company colors. We also offer the Pantone Matching System for an additional fee, to perfectly recreate your custom logo and colors.

 

But many people wonder: What’s the difference between CMYK and Pantone colors? Let us break it down for you.

What is Four Color Process/CMYK?

The CMYK model uses four different colored inks to create different hues. The four colors used are cyan (C), magenta (M), yellow (Y) and black (K). Layers of CMYK ink are used to various densities to create tonal differences and colors are defined by the actual percentage of each CMYK color used (i.e.: a dark purple could be represented as C=45, M=78, Y=45, B=34).

 

Combining only the CMY creates black; however a separate black is added to the process to increase efficiency and reduce use of ink. Because cyan, magenta and yellow are combined to create a multitude of colors, the inks are transparent.

 

The colors are mixed during the actual printing process, and because of this, there can sometimes be slight inconsistencies in the colors of a printing run. The exact color can be affected by paper, ink levels, printers and even temperature. This color method is known as a “subtractive” system because the more ink you add, the darker the color gets until it is black.

 

CMYK is generally the most popular printing method and it’s used primarily for full color printing. CMYK provides the best accuracy when printing color photography and generally should be the choice for any design that utilizes four or more colors.

 

What is Pantone?

The Pantone Matching System – known as PMS – is a universal matching system used in printing. Pantone offers a tonal range of colors that CMYK doesn’t, which ensures a perfect color match and eliminates discrepancies between designs and the printed product.

Unlike CMYK, in which color is mixed and printed in multiple runs, PMS colors are printed as spot colors in a single run. Because of this, you’re ensured consistent color from job to job or printer to printer.

For designs and logos with certain colors – like metallics, neons, navy blue, oranges and grays – PMS is the best option. Monochromatic or black and white designs also look best in PMS printing because the inks are opaque and the process creates richer tones and variations.

 

An extra definition: What is RGB?

RGB is a color system based on red (R), green (G) and blue (B). It is an “additive” system because colors in the RGB color wheel are created with light. Think of your computer monitor: the screen starts as black, and the more light that is added, the lighter it gets, until it is white.

 

The RGB model is used in TVs, theaters, computer monitors, and other electronic displays. Digital representations of logos and images are generally created the RGB model. When used in the printing process, the tones must be converted to CMYK. 

These three color styles are vastly different and there can be variations in colors between them. Keep in mind that Pantone colors tend to be crisper and offer greater graphic quality, but print jobs using Pantone are typically limited to a maximum of 4 colors. CMYK allows for more color possibilities (i.e.: full color photographs), but can produce duller and less accurate colors. 

When you understand the different color models, you’ll more easily determine the best printing process and the best promotional products for your company’s needs.
